Harvard Gazette Summary

"Search until you find a passion and go all out to excel in its expression"

Harvard Gazette Summary

During this interview given to Edward, O Wilson, the explanation of how his career started is stated. Edward grew up in the state of Alabama and there wasn't much to do so he became very involved with agriculture. His first interest began while he was in a boy scout group. After his experiences he shared with this group his interest in ants grew on him and he became more and more interested in this aspect of agriculture. He explains that his interest grew because he only has one functional eye which allowed him to see many ants and butterflies and he immediately sparked an interest. He was then inspired by a man named, William M. Mann who wrote an article titled, "Stalking Ants: Savage and Civilized." Edward O Wilson goes onto be a very successful entomology and is an inspiration to many.
Many questions are asked about his life but the one question that stood out to me was when Edward was asked about writing. His response was very short, sweet and to the point. He says, "Every day." This can show that even a man who is very well known for his science can be just as fond of writing. In fact, he has his own, personal book published  He searched until he found his passion, even as a little boy, and put all his effort into making his passion excel. He states in the beginning of the interview that he attends a very poor university but that does not stop him! He goes on to the University of Tennessee and many students believe he should have considered Harvard! He is a very amazing, and inspiring man who many will look up to for years to come.
